Product Focus on Checklists : Working out of school/offsite

All of our customers have access to the DPE Knowledge Bank which has a Best Practice Checklist area.  Each checklist is designed to help you walk through all aspects of data protection.
The checklist will give you an insight about where your organisation is with data protection from a data privacy and technical security perspective. The checklists form part of the Best Practice library which includes contextualised guidance, documents and resources on specific areas of data processing.  The checklists form part of the ICO Accountability Framework which helps organisations with their governance and corporate risk management where it relates to data protection.    The checklists cover all aspects of the framework, enabling you to assess against organisation baselines:

Working out of school/offsite

The Working out of school checklist asks questions about the technical measures needs to be able to work safely offsite.  It checks whether there are agreements in place with staff and checks device suitability.  This links with the Work out of school Best Practice Area which gives help and guidance about working offsite and help with assessing the risks around data breaches when data is taken offsite.

There are several best practices and standards for removing data from site or accessing data remotely. If you are a school or trust, then this is clearly defined in the DfE Digital Standards Documents.

Try asking the data protection  lead, or SLT digital lead in your organisation or contact your DPO.  If you are a school or trust, then the SLT digital lead has this responsiblity - do you know who that is in your organisation?
